PACKAGE DESIGN
In this category you will see a few of my designs for labels and band CD’s.
Archie’s Belgian White Ale
This beer label was crafted for SIU Carbondale’s School of Theater and Dance in partnership with the university’s Fermentation Science Institute and Ravinia Brewing Co., marking the campus's first-ever branded beer. Archie’s Belgian White Ale pays tribute to Archibald “Archie” McLeod, the founding chair of SIU’s Department of Theater in 1955. The design features Mezzetino, a commedia dell’arte character originally used as the department's unofficial mascot, brought to life by emeritus professor Ron Naversen.
Reworking Naversen’s original sketch, I added a fresh flair with SIU’s secondary branded colors. The deep blue background, a nod to traditional Belgian beer can designs, complements the hand-drawn “Archie’s” text, tailored to the flow of the overall design. The yellow and light blue flares at the top represent the stage lights, emphasizing the theatrical essence of the label. This project has been one of the most rewarding, blending creativity with history, and it came together seamlessly—one of those rare moments where everything just clicked, feeling like it was truly meant to be.
King Cream Ale
I deigned this beer label for the Fermentation Science Institute at SIUC. The concept is paying homage to the original Saluki Dawg mascot “King Tut” for SIUC. Hence, the Saluki dog in a pharaoh head dress.
Keeping in mind that this is a light beer made with corn, I kept the color pallet light as well. Based on the brand color pallet of SIUC. I used the yellow to capture that summer beer feel. I let the main maroon color be the secondary color in the role of a highlight.
I wanted this design to visually remind he viewer of the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and monuments through color, line work and other various elements used.
Roam Home
To A Dome
A Benefit Compilation Recorded In R. Buckminster Fuller’s Dome home in Carbondale, IL.
I deigned this cd artwork for RBF Dome NFP. It was a great honor looking back at it. Various local area artists recorded on the album.
I recreated Bucky’s spherical design and utilized it all through the cd design space. The black and white color scheme makes a bold statement that matches Bucky’s principles and ideas.
Woodbox Gang
Born With A Tail
I designed this cd for my friends from the Woodbox Gang. The cover illustration was commissioned by the talented artist Allen Jaeger. Once I received the cover and supporting artwork, I put this full package together. I shot all the photos for the cd in film. It is the biggest cd design project that I have worked on to date.
